Pipe Fit-up Clamps

Product Overview CPL Series

Precision and Agility for Professional Fabricators The Strong Hand Tools CPL Series (CPL45 and CPL75) provides an agile, sliding-arm external alignment solution for rapid pipe-to-pipe and flange fit-ups. Solving the bulk and slow deployment of traditional tools, it enables a single operator to effortlessly align, adjust, and tack-weld.

Key Advantages:

  • Lightweight Design: Weighing up to 75% less than standard clamps, it significantly reduces user fatigue during overhead tasks and allows quick, one-handed placement.

  • Purity Protection: All-stainless steel contact pads and fine-adjustment screws prevent iron cross-contamination and localized galvanic corrosion in high-purity piping systems.

  • Optimized Access: A narrow 3.5-inch (88.9 mm) footprint provides exceptional visual and physical clearance to easily execute tack welds and root passes in tight, restricted spaces.

  • Cost-Effective: A portable, time-saving alternative to heavy-duty options, accelerating setup times while delivering repeatable, professional-grade accuracy to any workshop.

Note: Pair with external magnetic alignment pins when precise flange face leveling is required. If your project demands heavy-duty reforming of severely deformed or thick-walled pipe (Schedule 80 and above), step up to a heavy external lever clamp (such as the CPA60 / CPA120) or chain clamping systems.

CLAMP SELECTOR

Find Your Fit-Up Clamp

Input your pipe's dimensional settings to find the exact clamp matching your project parameters.

3.5" (89 mm)

All-Stainless Steel Contact Points

CPL clamps use all-stainless steel pads and screws to prevent iron contamination and pipe corrosion. This makes them approved for high-purity chemical, pharma, and food industries.

Patented Sliding-Arm Technology

Built on Strong Hand's patented architecture, the CPL sliding-arm F-clamp opens instantly. Unlike slow threaded C-clamps, it sets up 10x faster, dramatically boosting your shop's daily throughput.

Ultra-Lightweight, Low-Mass Body

Built with high-strength alloy steel, the CPL45 is 2.8 lbs (1.3 kg) and CPL75 is 4.7 lbs (2.1 kg). Up to 75% lighter than standard clamps, they prevent arm strain and fatigue in field welding.

Stable 3.5-Inch (89 mm) L-Clamp Rods

Both models use dual 3.5" (89 mm) L-shaped rods for a stable, three-point base. This geometric design ensures precise joint alignment while maintaining a narrow footprint for restricted spaces.

Open Joint Visual & Physical Access

Features three precise stainless steel contact points, leaving the joint mostly exposed. This provides unhindered access, allowing you to place root tacks and run substantial weld beads before clamp removal.

Pre-Set Adjustment for Rapid Repeatability

Three fine-adjustment screws on 3.5-inch (88.9 mm) rods let you pre-set pipe diameters. This "Press-Slide-Set" design enables rapid, repeated loading of identical workpieces, streamlining production runs.

Three-Point Independent Adjustment for Alignment Mismatch

Three adjustable screws compensate for pipe imperfections like ovality. This perfectly aligns mating edges for a flawless, flush joint before your root tack.

Suited for Schedule 10 through 40 Wall Thicknesses

Optimized for standard wall-thickness pipelines. Unlike bulky clamps needed for deformed pipes, the CPL series is perfectly balanced for quick alignments on Schedule 10 through Schedule 40 piping networks.

Product Comparison: CPA Series vs. CPL Series

CPA60

A yellow and black two-jaw puller tool for mechanical applications.

CPA120

CPL45

A metal clamp with adjustable components for holding objects securely.

CPL75

A metal clamp with adjustable components for securing materials.

Weight Profile

  • CPA Series: Heavy-duty build, ranging from 11.0 to 17.0 lbs (4.99 to 7.71 kg).

  • CPL Series: Ultra-lightweight design, ranging from 2.8 to 4.7 lbs (1.27 to 2.13 kg).

Wall Thickness & Pipe Schedule

  • CPA Series: Dominates on heavy-duty applications, engineered specifically for Schedule 40, Schedule 80, and heavier walls.

  • CPL Series: Restricted to thin-walled applications, ideal for Schedule 10 through 40 piping.

Reforming Capability

  • CPA Series: Built for reshaping. It relies on a rigid, double-walled cage frame and heavy-duty fine-adjustment screws to actively push out-of-round pipe walls back into perfect concentricity.

  • CPL Series: Designed for alignment only. The light, sliding-arm F-clamp lacks the mechanical leverage required to reform steel if a pipe section has been warped or damaged during transport.
